Despite what its name suggests, this beast of a boutique brewery is impressive in both appearance and substance.
Put together 300 chairs, 12 taps, 15 lounge suites, six leather booths, six beer vats, one pot belly and one library. What do you get? The Little Creatures Brewery. Set inside a massive converted boat shed on Fishing Boat Harbour in Fremantle, it's easy to see why Little Creatures took out Champion Australasian Brewery at the 2006 Australian International Beer Awards.
Upon entering, look left, the actual brewery is totally open and visible. On a busy day you may spot technicians changing and re-arranging. After that look right, the beer is poured straight from the conditioning tanks for your drinking pleasure. Continue down past the open kitchen that's always buzzing with action. Choose a table or private booth and enjoy the fantastic service, just don't look for a name badge and tie - t-shirts and faded aprons are the norm.
On offer is casual brunch, lunch, dinner or beers, with the crowd ranging from surfers to students to professionals and beyond. For something light, try the vegie skewers with tofu and basil oil, or if you need a little more, indulge in some prosciutto-wrapped tiger prawns with seeded mayo.
Little Creatures has been holding down one of the best Sunday sessions for a while now, consistently packed with locals and tourists alike. Funky world music is the soundtrack on most nights, with local DJs in the mix on Fridays.
