Our lady of luxe may have gotten a facelift, but she hasn't forgotten her roots.
After receiving a swanky refurb, it seems the new and improved night spot is an ode to past - a moody retro wonderland of marble coffee tables, luminous fish tanks, animal print cushions, charmingly kitsch chalkboard walls and disco balls (even the carpet has the former Ladylux logo tessellated throughout the lounge area in a subtle tribute to days of yore).
The vodka-based cocktails, designed by the bar manager Sam Fallows, are amusingly named after circa 1970s James Bond birds (Mrs. Money Penny, Kissy Suzuki, Solitaire, Mary Goodnight and so on).
The Solitaire concoction is alone worth a mention for the homemade Rosella flower jam component that Fallows prepares personally at home, which blends artfully with Absolut pear, Frangelico and lime to make the ideal summer tipple. Or for a bit of spectacle it's worth tasting the Tracy Draco, which arrives with a neat flame atop (but be sure to heed the bar staff's warning and "...blow it out before drinking").
The Kings Cross venue's flashy decor and house beats provide a fitting backdrop for the elite party set that frequent the neighborhood. Of course, the addition of a jazz night each Wednesday, "Live at Lux", could prove the perfect mid-week remedy.
