Roll up for unbeatable two-for-one cocktails at this legendary bar, a well-loved and dimly-lit escape from the busy King Street traffic, then roll next door for a kebab.
Situated in the heart of Newtown's King Street, Kuletos has experienced several makeovers over the years without losing its charm. In 2007 the bar went through many renovations, both downstairs and up, and while it now looks less like a bar about to fall apart, it remains a cult-classic favourite for locals looking for cheap cocktails and crazy nights out.
It's become legendary among its clientele thanks to the reliable happy cocktail hours, which happen six nights a week and are now embedded in Newtown's psyche. If you're well-organised, and you're not afraid of a hectic crowd, come before 7.30pm (7pm on Saturdays) to take them up on the two-for-one cocktail offer. The numerous cocktails available include chocolatey martinis, Long Island Iced Teas, caprioskas, 'Toblerones' and plenty more.
With many of Newtown's favourite restaurants a stone's throw away, Kuletos is famous for wetting the pre-dinner appetites. Chips and nuts are the only snacks on offer, so if dinner isn't a planned event - and you're keen to keep drinking - you can try sobering up at the Turkish kebab spot next door, which offers a quick and hearty pit stop.
