Stunning water views and a well-stocked wine list make this a popular after-work destination.
Brisbane city probably can't lay claim to Australia's most spectacular waterside position or its most iconic bridge, but the recent addition to Kingsley Smith's stable of steakhouses has certainly captured the best it has in both. Occupying prime space on the first floor of Riparian Plaza and looking across to the Story Bridge and up to the Gardens Point reach, there are few CBD watering holes more suited to a post-work brew, and unobstructed visual access to peak hour river-traffic chaos means you can coordinate your ferry timetable while finishing a frosty one.
It may no longer be a man's world, but it doesn't take an architectural genius to deduce that the decor targets the city's more masculine constituents. With its tawny tones, exposed timber beams and leather-clad booths, all that's missing is the university football pennant; if they'd have been able to find one in brown, they might well have got a guernsey. That's not to say that Kingsley's is all beer-swilling and bad language; in fact the drinks list is probably heavier on shiraz than suds, and the beer-drinking patrons are sufficiently well-versed in boutique varieties to warrant the inclusion of more than a dozen choices. Considering the view (and if we're honest, the rent), prices are fair.
