Once upon a time, the King's Head was a run-of-the-mill, inner-city watering hole - not unpleasant, but not somewhere that you'd make a point of visiting. What a difference a little love (and, presumably, no small amount of dollars) can make. Recently refurbished, it has been transformed into an ultra-chic city locale, blending old-world heritage charm and antique stained windows with a certain dose of sass that's as modern as tomorrow. Much of it comes down to the sleek new interior, decked out with walls full of edgy, modern portraits courtesy of artist Chad McLachlan. Wander into the King's Bar section and ask the bartender to shake up something wet and wonderful from the cheeky cocktail list. The Hot and Dirty is made with Level vodka, vermouth, Tabasco and an olive; while the Misty Bitch is created with Absolut vodka, currant infusions, Cointreau, lime and ruby grapefruit juice. For those with an appetite, the restaurant features an eclectic and ever-changing menu that's a cut above standard city pub fare. Add regular entertainment from Wednesday to Sunday with DJs, bands and other special events, and there are plenty of reasons to hail this pub as the kingpin on King William Street.
