Decked out like a colonial gentleman's club, this pub is actually lady-friendly. Don't let the adjoining golf course put you off either - a happy hour happens every weeknight here.
Bottle green walls adorned with old golfing photographs and sporting paraphernalia, polished jarrah wall panels, a black granite bar and green leatherette chairs lend this sports bar the feel of a colonial gentlemen's club. However, membership of the adjoining Joondalup Country Club is not a prerequisite, and neither is an interest in or an aptitude for golf. Everyone receives a warm reception at the Kangaroo Arms - ladies included - and while the main focus is on the bar's nine tap beers (ranging from VB to Kilkenny) the shelves on the back wall are suitably well-stocked with wines, spirits and liqueurs.
The fairly recent addition of a large screen showing sports and music DVDs has added a modern touch without spoiling the otherwise traditional style. The introduction of the no-smoking rule inside the bar has given the place a more welcoming ambience - smokers are kindly asked to use the three designated tables in the alfresco area out front. Stay for the duration on any weeknight and you'll catch 'happy hour' - where beers, wines and soft drinks are all available at reduced prices.
