Settling into one of the seated hammocks on the wooden deck with cocktail in hand, reggae beats in the background and waves crashing onto the beach just metres away; this could easily be a scene from a Jamaican paradise. But it's not - it's the main tourist strip in Townsville and there is not a dreadlock in sight. This cocktail beach bar provides the ideal spot for a mid-week catch up with friends (indulge in the bar snack or gourmet pizza menu if you have missed lunch or it's just too early for dinner), or make an afternoon of it at one of Jamaica Joe's Sunday sessions; every Sunday afternoon, the venue hosts live music while patrons kick-back to the chilled out tunes of reggae, ska, soul or funk.
There are two bars - the beach bar is replete with tropical decor, while the lounge bar is decked out like a beach hut, sporting wooden carvings and multicoloured leis. The view of Magnetic Island, combined with the sunshine, music and afternoon beverage is enough to make you ponder, "Work tomorrow? What work?"
