This elegant venue sets a new standard for hotel bars. Sit atop a bright red bar stool while indulging in some of Tasmania's finest vinos and beers.
Housed in the award-winning Henry Jones Art Hotel, this uber-chic bar entices travellers and locals alike, with its stylish interior and first-class collection of local tipples. Perched on Hobart's historic waterfront, the Henry Jones Hotel occupies the old IXL jam factory site. Today (following a multi-million dollar metamorphosis) the establishment is an intriguing mix of 19th-Century beauty and modern design, coated in sleek furnishings. The IXL Long Bar, which is nestled in the hotel's foyer, fits snugly into this glam image, and has earned itself a reputation as one of the Apple Isle's most elegant drink spots. Stepping inside, bright red stools line a glass-topped bar which runs the length of the room. Overhanging red conical lamps illuminate the space and are cheekily matched by frosty crimson martini glasses. At the end of the bar a backlit glass case serves as a reminder to this venue's curious history, displaying an array of IXL jam labels. Stylish sippers fill the Long Bar seven nights a week, spilling into the hotel's foyer with schooners of Boags and Moo Brew Pilsner (a local ale), which flow from the taps. For the more discerning drinker, a selection of Tasmanian wines and seasonal cocktails are also available. Peckish bar-goers are also catered for with cheese platters and fresh Tasmanian oysters.
