Locals hit the Impy for live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Hit the dance floor at the Studio 181 bar or take it easy in the lounge area.
Most young local people will end their nights out at "the impy", and I don't really know why. The Imperial does well as a typical country pub, with all the usual attractions - pool tables, a shotgun arcade game and an inconspicuous line up of pokies; but it is strange that it has tried to position itself as a dance venue - the only live music I have ever seen there was amateur cover bands from the local area, and the same with the DJs (think high school kids with laptops mixing "sweet home alabama" and you're not far off.
There are extensive beer gardens at the rear of the pub, which can be really nice in the summer, but my advice is to give this place a miss - the drinks are overpriced (for Tamworth), I think the staff are rude, I have seen security be completely unreasonable, and most of all this place is the only one in the region to charge a cover charge. It is only $5, but still, it's not like they're providing any quality live music (and most often they're not providing ANY live music).
This place remains popular, but if you are looking for a nicer pub, there are many other options close by.
