Prepare yourself for going a little loopy in this kooky Aladdin's cave, where crazy chandeliers will compete with chardonnay for your attention.
Like the sort of ornate themed bar one might stumble across in Vegas, Carlton's Il Duce Si Diventa is a cavernous multi-level venue packed chock-a-block with marble busts and kitsch surprises. In its mixed bag of visual treats you'll find European-style artwork, gilt-framed mirrors, imposing sculptures and original over-the-top chandeliers that lend the place a totally kooky atmosphere.
Deep in the jungle of artful artefacts, fancy glass cabinets showcase the wide selection of wine and spirits on offer. All of these are generously priced; in fact Il Duce makes it a rule that glass of wine or spirits or pot of beer that you order from the well-stocked bar will exceed $5. Not surprisingly, it is a popular weekend drinks spot.
If the rotating statues swinging from the ceiling fans, the eerie opera music and the gaze of dozens of stone eyes put you a little on-edge, you can recline one of the many welcoming lounge settees with a relaxing glass of red. After a few drops of wine in this loopy space, an indulgent cake and coffee supper will further comfort you.
