Boisterous dance floor antics are assisted by cheap flowing booze and top 40 tunes here. Vodka Cruisers are $3 until 11pm every night.
Half pub, half nightclub, this Canberra venue is a hybrid that rarely sleeps. Since breaking into the clubbing scene in the early '90s, ICBM has been drawing in crowds of cut-loose partygoers who seek commercial tunes and boisterous, booze-fuelled hilarity.
While its upstairs counterpart, Meche (formerly Insomnia), gets the crowd moving to hard techno tracks, the buzz in ICBM is perkier and cheesier. Here, DJs spin top 40 hits as well as a few flashback favourites.
Early in the night, the dance floor remains more or less deserted - apart from the odd lone clubber who has perhaps started the night off a little too early.
However, as midnight rolls around, the space is transformed and the dance floor becomes jam-packed. The crowd can easily be seen from the street (thanks to the large glass frontage) but the idea of prying eyes doesn't stop these pumped-up partygoers from busting all their moves. ICBM lovers usually leave their inhibitions at the door, and couple their dancing with the cheap drink specials. Vodka Cruisers are priced at $3 until 11pm every night. Meanwhile, Thirsty Thursdays offer up $3 basic spirits and local beer until 1am.
A scattering of lounges are available for those who have worn out their dancing legs. Here, they can sit back, relax and watch the pop clips that flash across the plasma screens.
