Halfway Hotel

Don't expect any bells or whistles. This local is frequented by those who have a hankering for beer, betting and bistro nosh. Try the Halfway's signature schnitzel.

Set halfway between the beach and the city, this is one of Adelaide's oldest pubs, although it has been recently updated thanks to a renovation. It's the kind of boozer that starts early, routinely opening its doors to regulars at 10am on Sunday and at 8am on every other day of the week.

Sidle up to the bar's service area and you'll spot VB, Cascade, Hahn, Coopers Pale Ale and Westende Draught on tap. Take a squiz around the joint and you'll probably spot local barflies spread out in clusters, nursing their drinks and punting away. This pub is big on its gaming; there's TAB, Keno and heaps of pokies.

The bistro serves dishes such as salt and pepper squid, steak, pasta and the Halfway's signature schnitzel (that's chicken schnitz covered with prawns, avocado, cream, sweet chilli sauce and cheese). Promoting itself as 'family friendly', the bistro also offers a kids' menu and video games to keep ankle-biters occupied while adults dine.

The Halfway Taverner offers jukebox hits, sports coverage, regular drink specials, an enclosed courtyard and a drive-through bottle-o.
