An attitude adjustment, a slick refit and a killer cocktail menu have put this Kings Cross nightspot back on the map. Bring a smile, not your Prada bag.
When mentioning your Goldfish visit to a seasoned Sydneysider, don't be surprised if you are met with exclamations of "What? That seedy old pub on the corner?" Once known as the Goldfish Bowl, this venue has a not-so-classy past.
But now, the Goldfish is on the superhighway of laidback luxe and casual chic. That said though, the owners have taken an interesting option in deciding to ditch the dress code: they judge prospective punters on their attitude, not the brand of their shoes. And given its location, arguably shared with some of the city's more interesting characters, this idea seems to work.
But don't fear; for those who prefer to be immersed in the true Kings Cross experience, the lattice-like grill across the street-facing wall provides just the right amount of interaction with the natives.
The comprehensive drinks menu will rock your world if cocktails are your thing and on a quieter night, don't be shy about asking the friendly bar staff for a recommendation. There's also a handful of beers on tap and plenty in the fridge if you don't want to stray from your brew of choice.
