Art deco styling and bygone charm permeate this venue. Order up a classic Singapore Sling or a Chitti Chitti, which blends lychee liqueur with ginger beer and lemonade.
In the heart of Brisbane's New Farm, an area known for its trendy eateries and nightspots, you'll find an elegant piece of 1930s Paris. Or at least, that's the way it appears.
Gertie's Bar has recently changed hands and the new owners have gone to great lengths to capture the feel of a stylish Parisian bar, with art deco-inspired pieces and dark leather furnishings throughout.
The cocktail list is equally geared towards celebrating the bygone era. You'll find old favourites such as the classic Singapore Sling and the Rob Roy sitting alongside original concoctions with an old word feel. The Bombay Garden Party takes you back to the days of the Raj, with a mixture of Bombay Sapphire gin, apple liqueur and Pimms.
The snacks menu has a slightly cheeky feel, with food listed under categories such as 'delightful' (including sweets such as affogato and chocolate fondue) and 'delovely' (a selection of cheeses served with quince and pear). Even the functions menu gives a little nod to Paris and Singapore.
However don't go rushing out to get yourself a feather boa and cigarette holder, for this is no cabaret bar. Instead, Gertie's has a relaxed atmosphere. It attracts an eclectic mix of cocktail drinkers and those who are just there to people-watch.
