Favela's owners Dean Dinov and James Moses have raised the bar for glamour drinking with this flashy, multi-faceted addition to the Kellett Street strip.
Inspired by the hedonistic eat-drink-dance venues you'll find in hot spots such as New York and Ibiza, Favela has risen from the rubble of a disused building in Potts Point. That may have had something with the venue's name (Favela means 'slum' in Portuguese), but the decor takes its cues from the more luxurious side of life. On the dance floor, this translates into a seriously luxe room filled with gold mosaic tiles, 8,000 light globes, mirrored tables and tiger-print carpets. In the bar area, things are a little more low key, but still ever-so-stylish.
If you drop in early in the evening, head downstairs to the restaurant and sample some of ex-Longrain chef Teresa Gibson's savvy pan-Asian dishes. For later on, you can book a private table in the club upstairs where carefully picked DJs spin tasteful house on a Funktion One sound system. If that's too hectic, head to the bar to try some top-tier cocktails and trendy wine labels.
For a city that's really lacking in decent nocturnal nosheries, the bar's late-night yum cha menu (available from 11pm until 3am) really seals the deal.
