Intimate and moody, this nightspot attracts well-heeled partygoers who appreciate elaborate cocktails and funky DJ beats. A tempting cafe-style lunch menu also draws in a business crowd by day.
Set in the heart of Adelaide's buzzing West End, this uber-cool venue couples chi-chi cocktails with intimate couches, creating a space for indulgent lounging.
Though small and snug, Elysium makes the most of its size, with a massive window that opens up the space and affords a view over busy Hindley Street. Dim lighting coats the room, casting a velvety glow over the artworks that grace one of the walls. These artworks are all for sale, so drinkers - wallet permitting - can secure themselves a masterpiece or two while they explore the drinks list.
During the day, Elysium is usually full of lunchtime suits, chowing down on calamari salads and burgers. However, after dark, stiletto-strapped girls and stylish men in their twenties flood the space, lounging and lazing while tipping back luscious drinks.
The cocktail list is sizeable, offering up a selection of sparkling wine classics such as the Bellini and the Kir Royale. There are also other fruity concoctions served in tall, frosty Collins glasses and a few original Elysium creations. For something sweet and smooth, try the Allure: it mixes Absolut Vanilia vodka with Chambord, Frangelico and cream.
Elysium's soundtrack is a fusion of live music and DJ beats. Jazz tunes fill the space every Thursday, while a swing band performs once a month. Over the weekend, local house DJs spill funky tunes for the equally funky crowd.
