This old boozer is a big hit with faithful Newtown barflies who like such simple pleasures as pool, sunshine and icy ale.
Blissfully scruffy and worn out around the edges, this old Newtown pub doesn't need to dress up to impress anybody. It's more than 150 years old, so you can just love it or leave it. But most locals choose to adore it - green carpet, old tiling and all.
This place is always buzzy, even when it rains. When it pours, the management just brings out buckets to catch the raindrops - a situation that everyone seems quite happy with. Check out the sports memorabilia or strike up a convo with one of the local regulars from the inner-west 'burbs and beyond.
The beer garden out the back is another drawcard. It has shady trees, fairy lights and plenty of space where you can kick back on warm days and demolish a burger along with a few lazy ales.
The tap beer options at the Courthouse are massive. Brand names include Carlton, Tooheys, VB, Becks, Stella Artois, Reschs and even the Courthouse's very own brew, Justice Ale.
The cocktail list includes all the classics such as caipiroskas, mojitos and martinis. There are also a few signature drinkies such as the Blind Justice (Jameson, amaretto, pineapple and lime juice).
