A recent makeover has given this former pub a triple personality, and the suits from Collins Street are flocking in to check it out.
The Collins Quarter is a little like the Tardis; a small doorway conceals a voluminous interior with many hidden surprises. Wander down the long hallway and you'll arrive at the huge bar space where you find ten beers on tap and plenty of affordable Australian wine by the glass. For suits on extended lunch breaks, there are deep chocolate booths to wedge into - the perfect place to while away an afternoon.
Travel on further and step out into the lovely magnolia courtyard, a truly unique oasis of open space, sunshine and quiet tranquillity (well, at least until after work drinks when it becomes a little spirited). If the crowds do roll in, don't despair, avert your eyes skyward and take passage into Ra, the lofted cocktail bar looking down over the courtyard. Ra can also be accessed from the rear lane, giving it the much sought after 'Melbourne secret laneway bar' chic. The makeover at this end of Collins Quarter is extensive, and Ra has a luxe feel and clientele to match.
Collins Quarter has an extensive menu of innovative mod-Oz food to graze on, or for more substantial appetites, there are lunch and dinner options as well.
Being in Collins St, the drinks are cheap but I suppose this covers the cost of the semi-recent reno's. It is good for a Friday arvo drink before the suits arrive but after then, it is a complete madhouse.
