DJ tunes, live bands, sports coverage and meal deals keep this pub's regulars feeling warm, fuzzy and loyal. Thursday night is retro at heart, so expect some Pink Floyd.
The Caxton is a one-stop pub that does it all.
Step into the Cauldron bar area and you'll probably spot packs of girls in jeans and singlets milling around tables and sipping on Cherry Ripe cocktails (cherry brandy, Malibu, Tia Maria, cream, cherries and chocolate). Guys in tight t-shirts plough through beers and watch the latest soccer match on the enormous plasma screens which are scattered around the bar.
Wednesday DJ sessions are called Electrolysis: expect electro, house, breaks and funk. Thursdays are dedicated to retro hits (think Pink Floyd, ABBA and Fleetwood Mac), while Fridays and Saturdays offer up party-style chart hits and Sundays are dedicated to live bands.
In the adjoining Press Box bar and Street Cafe areas, riled-up university students discuss politics, while sports fans argue over who will win the next big match. A range of snacks are available until 2am, including reasonably priced steak sandwiches. Espresso coffees are also available from the Press Box. Meal specials vary, depending on the day of the week, but you're pretty much always sure to find some cheapie deal, or the possibility free dessert with your main meal.
