This riverside bar puts a thouroughly modern twist on Lebanese food and drink.
If the Phoenicians had stumbled across the chic Byblos Portside, they may never have got around to building a thing, so it's probably lucky that Brisbane wasn't on the map in 3000 BC.
Set back on the riverside promenade with views to Bulimba and beyond, Byblos' prime position is matched by its million-dollar decor - and although velvet banquettes and a pink backlit bar may not immediately transport you back to pre-Jesus Lebanon, a lot can be excused with a well-made caipirinha.
Okay, so the dubious authenticity extends to the drinks list, but if there's a native Lebanese cocktail, I'm not aware of it and with the bartending pedigree here, there's no doubt you're in safe hands. Ex-Alhambra, Uber and Press Club staff roll out a list that includes ubiquitous favourites, award-winning originals and some tricked-up classics. Made with Highland Park 12 Year Old, Green Tree Amaretto and Grand Marnier, The Twisted Godfather is Byblos' deserved claim to fame. With possibly this city's most comprehensive range of whiskies, a decent selection of by-the-glass wines and more digestifs than you'll have room for, the sometimes-slow service may actually work in your favour.
