This waterside bar and cafe draws drinkers in with its luxury views and novelty decor, but keeps them there with humidity-combating frozen daiquiris.
On the list of compulsory sights to see when visiting Darwin (from croc farms to the sunset markets), one of the more unusual entries has to be the loos at Buzz. This bar and cafe has made its mark with double-take decor throughout both the public and the rather more private areas.
Buzz occupies one of the best spots in Darwin, leaning precariously over the water of Cullen Bay Marina with nosy-parker views of the various skiffs and luxury yachts moored opposite. The prime position in one of Darwin's most sophisticated corners attracts a mix of moneyed tourists and successful young Darwinians - with the latter keeping Buzz's deckchairs warm throughout the wet season.
The eyebrow-raising decor continues in the shade of the interior with a bar crafted from massive pieces of lava, hand-painted tables and Balinese-flavoured accessories. The aforementioned bathrooms take avante-garde decor to a stage-fright inducing level, with one-way mirrors offering views to the outside.
There's a full restaurant menu available, offering an excellent excuse to linger, but the cocktail menu can provide ample sustenance on its own. Buzz specialises in frozen cocktails - an ideal antidote for the sticky Darwin heat. Mango daiquiris are highly recommended for their boozy, juicy flavour.
