Over 100 years old and renovated to perfection, this classic pub with a gold rush past is now looking spiffy and modern.
In the days when Western Australia was struck by glimmering gold fever, the Broken Hill Hotel flung its doors open to a thirsty crowd, and quickly became a Perth icon. For over a century it has stood majestically on the Albany Highway. However noone has given this grand old beauty as much TLC as its current owner Marty Helean. With a fresh lick of paint, a terrace, and a stunning beer garden outside, this pub now stands prouder than ever. Inside, it features sleek modern interiors and three plasma screens. It may be spiffy, but it still doesn't pander to corporate suits or the hip young crowds. As the strapline boldly states, this is 'a place for everyone'. On Fridays and Saturdays, it rumbles with a packed, broad mix of people. Plum and aubergine cushioned stools line the sparkling white granite-topped bar, which has an impressive back-lit display of spirits and pre-mixed drinks. Venture around the corner and you'll find yourself in the hotel's cocktail bar, where you can shoot some pool or lounge in a huge leather booth with a sweet fruit daiquiri. The menu serves up chips and aioli dip and a classic meat lover's pizza.
