As Adelaide's original Irish pub, the 'Brecky' is definitely the place to be on rollicking St Pat's Day. Expect Irish folk muso performances, open jam sessions and dark Guinness galore.
Sure, every damn street has an 'Irish pub' these days. There are probably shamrock millionaires all over the country still living large on fortunes they made selling green-painted tat to eager publicans who couldn't get on the Guinness bandwagon fast enough.
The Brecknock Hotel, however, doesn't play those sorts of games. Yes, it's an Irish pub; yes, it has Guinness on tap; yes, it hosts live Celtic-themed music nights three times a week; and yes, its St Patrick's Day celebrations are, shall we say, 'lively'. But you can bet that when the next wave of pub-fashion sweeps through Adelaide, the waters will settle and the Brecknock will still be doing what it does best - providing a warm Irish atmosphere at the top of King William Street.
Bands play on Fridays and Saturdays and open jam sessions rule on Sundays.
Hearty pub grub is served for lunch and dinner six days a week.
Carlton, Coopers and VB all flow on tap, but why would you care when there's also good old Guinness?
For happy hour discounts, nip in between 4.30pm and 6pm on weekdays.
