Blue Skies Dining

There are more sunny days in Hobart than you might imagine. There's a good chance the view from this casual bar will be blue skies meeting sparkling blue waters.

Out on the pier between Salamanca and the CBD sits Blue Skies Dining, a casual restaurant, cafe and bar capturing the best of Hobart's gorgeous waterfront. The surfing and lifesaving memorabilia lining the walls are great conversation pieces, and while the layout of the cafe still has the discernable air of a 1970s country town milk bar, few milk bars enjoy near-panoramic views of fishing boats, sandstone foreshores and a city skyline as Blue Skies does.

The main restaurant at the water end of the pier is more formal than the cafe bar (glass doors separate the two areas). But on a sunny day - and Hobart gets far more of them than commonly thought - the glass panel walls create a pleasant place to lounge above the water, sample a drop or two of plonk and reconsider the need to do anything more that afternoon. Evenings on the pier are delightful, all bobbing boats and reflected lights, with Blue Skies perfectly located to catch it all. Best of all, you can walk from your dining table back to just about anywhere in central Hobart.
