This retro chic oasis in bohemian Brunswick is the place to sip green apple cocktails under plastic fern tree fronds! Friday and Saturday draw a packed party crowd.
Embedded in the depths of the grungy Fitzroy bar scene, The Black Pearl Bar glows warmly -safely tucked away from the busy swirling currents of the Brunswick and Johnston Street intersection. This spot has the moody lighting and retro furniture, like many of Fitzroy's bars. Yet it is definitely not your average dingy student hangout. The Black Pearl Bar mixes the relaxed vibe of recycled furnishings with a hip young-professional brand of chic. Green plastic fern fronds eavesdrop on huddled couches filled with circles of chatting drinkers. Mature 20-somethings sink deep into squishy cushions whilst young-at-heart 40-somethings perch near the front window and watch the streetscape action flow past. This bar specialises in cocktails, and the Green Apple Spring is one of their most popular creations. It blends vodka with Granny Smith apples and juice. Meanwhile, beer lovers will find Stella Artois chilled on tap. Beyond the bar, a decorative wall filled with chunky holes creates a coral gateway through to an elevated level with more couches washed in subtle, cool blue lighting. The mood here is chilled, except for on Friday and Saturday nights, when the place packs out and the amplifier's volume knob is pushed up to 11.
I love the big comfy couches upstairs. The bartenders were excellent and patient in explaining the delicious concoctions on the menu despite being so busy! Thumbs up to the cocktails. They make a mean dirty martini and is not stingy with their olives! Great place for an intimate party or a midweek drink.

I Love The Black Pearl
Great for a casual drink after work or an upmarket cocktail for a treat. The Black Pearl is a winner. Atmosphere on the weekend is party, party. Friendly customers and gorgeous decor. The space feels pretty intimate. Expect to get cosy with strangers becauase the bar is pretty narrow.
