Backpackers, students and pub-crawling party groups venture to Black Betty's for the loud sounds and unpretentious atmosphere. Cover bands and DJs crank out chart hits.
Black Betty's is designed for those who like it live and loud. Though only open three nights a week, it's one of the most popular live music venues in the area, featuring a state-of-the-art sound system.
The stylish decor and the VIP room might be reminiscent of an upmarket nightclub, but Black Betty's actually has more of a club-meets-pub atmosphere. It's much more relaxed than the layout would probably suggest at first glance.
Wednesdays are aimed squarely at the budget backpacker and starving student, with free entry for early guests and discounted drinks all night. Pool competitions, giveaways and prizes all add to the party vibe and there's a free bus service that collects punters from other pubs in the area when they close.
Fridays and Saturdays focus more on the music. Resident bands hit the stage with a repertoire of 'contemporary classics' - basically crowd-pleasing covers that the audience will recognise from radio charts and
Video Hits. Later in the night DJs follow with similar tunes, playing hits and requests into the early hours.
This venue also holds plenty of functions, so don't be surprised to see a roving group of girls out on a hens' night or a busload of pub-crawling punters.
