Holiday-style hedonism reigns at this pool-decked bar and club. Watch out for the jelly wrestling, open deck DJ events and the odd film night.
Attached to a backpacker joint, Birdee Num Num is wild, popular and summer-loving at heart. During the hotter months, this bar heaves with young international travellers and a swarm of relaxed locals.
The emphasis is on hedonism, so expect podium dancing, daybed lounging and even the sweet, slippery possibility of some jelly wrestling on Sundays. If the temperature begins to blister, revellers can take a dip in the swimming pool on the deck and have a playful paddle before hitting the dance floor.
On calmer, lazy afternoons, drinkers usually soak up acoustic sounds while lounging in the poolside gazebo. But venture here after dark and the mood switches over to clubbing, flirting and drinking beer under koala-shaped lights inside. House, funk and pop are the staple Birdee sounds, however Open Deck Sundays also allow all 'bedroom bangers' - wannabe amateur DJs - to spread their wings and spin their personal vinyl with the volume cranked up.
You don't have to stay at the backpacker hostel to play at Birdee Num Num. However this set-up does mean that last-minute accommodation is right on hand. It's all very convenient for those barflies who feel too boozy or tired to venture home when the party loses its shine.
