Number one for a reason, this award-winning lounge bar may be in a hotel, but it's more than just a tavern for travellers.
While this slice of metro style smack-bang in the middle of Canberra is touted as something of a hangout for advertising types, it well and truly deserves the benefit of the doubt. Don't just take our word for it; the Australian Hotels Association recently bestowed on them the title of best bar in a hotel.
Cheekily sharing the lobby level of Canberra's Crowne Plaza Hotel, this secluded den of respite from the pub scene is laidback while still possessing class in spades. The decor says 'welcome', unfolding in calming tones of amber and wood, while lounge music guards against any awkward silences.
If perching on the petit ottomans by candlelight, martini in hand, doesn't sound relaxing, their ever-so-long cream couches stretch out along the windows, providing perfect views of the city lights and a cosy spot for (dare we say it?) a sneaky nap.
If fresh air is your thing (or lack thereof, if you're one of those with a penchant for nicotine) there's a heated patio, providing a pleasant outlook over Glebe Park.
The extensive range of both local and imported beers is complemented by an equally exhaustive wine list, while delectable tapas plates are available over the bar from 4pm.
