It's all about wine and sophistication at this Canberra sipping bar, with a 500-strong wine list that spans the world's best vino-producing countries.
Excuse the pun, but this elegant establishment certainly sets the benchmark for wine lists. With over 500 labels sourced from around the globe, and 100 varieties available by the glass, Benchmark Wine Bar boasts superior knowledge when it comes to vino.
After opening its doors in April 2003 as Canberra's first wine bar, this spot has quickly made a name for itself, having received several industry awards for its excellent variety of local and international wines.
The extensive wine collection spans across Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain and France, offering anything from a 2002 Angove's Chardonnay for $20 a bottle, to a 1986 Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon at $600 a pop.
Benchmark subscribes to keen attention to detail, and its sophisticated ambience mirrors the elegant drinks list.
There's also a carefully compiled food menu, which complements the fine wines on offer. Choose from the a la carte menu, or the all-day tapas menu, which includes European-inspired tastings such as thinly sliced prosciutto with cornichons, or prawn saganaki (prawns with a traditional Greek cheese).
Also on offer is a five-course degustation menu, which can be enjoyed with, or without matching wines.
