Find out just how strong ales brewed by Trappist monks are. Sample them in secular surrounds after a hard day's work.
Waving the flag for Belgian culture, the Belgian Beer Cafe Eureka is an ideal destination for after-work drinks. Situated on the ground level of Eureka Tower - the world's tallest residential building - it has a lively, unpretentious atmosphere, despite the ornate trimmings and imported furnishings. Friendly staff pour beers to perfection, which you can enjoy in the large bar or the outdoor terrace it flows onto.
There are five Belgian beers on tap - including the dark malt Leffe Brune that leaves a coffee-like after taste and the vibrantly-coloured sweet cherry Belle-Vue Kriek, which may tempt even the most hesitant of beer drinkers. Plenty more bottled beers, from lagers to strong ales brewed by Trappist monks, feature on the beer-lovers' menu. Of the 30 or so options, the good old Aussie Crown Lager has snuck its way in for those wanting something more familiar.
Staff use a nifty nine-step pouring process to ensure your beer is the best it can be. But if hops is really not thing, there's an extensive wine list available. Belgian bar snacks abound with a menu featuring a range of treats from escargot in herb butter to chicken Chasseur pie with mash, pea stoemp and gravy ready to soak up a lazy afternoon's drinking.
