Bebida

This Spanish gem is well-known for its fruity homemade sangria, its folky acoustic sessions in the courtyard and, of course, its happy hour.

Bebida usually hibernates mid-week, closing its doors firmly by late afternoon. With this in mind, it's worth noting that there are really only three times each week to experience Bebida by moonlight: Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Come on the right night, just as dusk is setting in, and you'll probably hear folky live acoustic sounds humming through the bluestone-walled courtyard and seeping into the bar and out onto the street.

Happy hour runs between 6pm and 7pm from Thursdays to Sundays, making it a tempting time to sample Bebida's range of local brews and wines. Indeed, the word 'bebida' means drink in Spanish, so it makes sense to drink Spanish-style when you drop in - and order a jug of homemade sangria. On balmy evenings, it goes down a treat, especially if you match it with some tapas.

During winter months, you'll probably also catch the fruity scent of mulled wine being brewed. This delicious drop is designed to warm you up faster than any heater. If the open-air courtyard proves to be too chilly, move into the bar area where you can expect to find plenty of cushioned seating and a toastier setting for drinks after dark.
