Bar Information

Mint

Lit by red lights and the sparkle off the bling, this R&B-dedicated lounge brings out Perth's divas and their heavily accessorised male companions.

Base Lounge is an R&B haven in Perth, where girls can channel a little Beyonce, draping themselves diva-fashion across the basement space, while guys swagger confidently, flashing their man jewellery with pride.

The space is a playground for adults, incorporating Lego-like square furniture and stencil-effect walls, while disco balls and bulbous lights drip like misshapen stalactites from the ceiling - the whole lot bathed in a red glow. Clustered booths provide semi-private party spots, where people can flirt and mingle (and stiletto-bitten feet can be surreptitiously rested).

Every night, from Wednesday to Saturday, offers a variation on the R&B theme, with regular and guest DJs also spinning hip-hop and dancehall tunes. Saturday nights are dedicated to the girls, with big R&B anthems playing all night. On long weekends, Base opens on Sunday nights for Love '80s - a celebration of all the daggy, fabulous and, above all, danceable hits of that unforgettable decade.

This generous-hearted club thumbs its nose at its pocket-emptying contemporaries, adopting a policy of free entry for all events. After sashaying through the door with wallet intact, there's more money to spend on Base's luscious cocktails. Try the Propaganda (a palate-friendly mix of vodka, Chambord and strawberries) or investigate their list of more than 20 boozy mixes.

Best night I have had in Perth!
This was one of the best nights I have ever had in Perth. I agree with whitney (above) about decor and doorman. I disagree about service! The service is great, all the barmen dress up and are very attentive to waiting people. I got a chocolate while I was waiting the first drink I ordered.

The cocktails are awesome, I was very impressed. Also the environment is great. They don't let idiots in. They are strict on the door, a guy that looked pretty scruffy in-front of us was denied entry. I think they have a strict shoe policy for guys.

The music is awesome as well.

All in all, easily the best night out I have had in Perth. I am going this Wednesday!

I'm never going back...
I've been to Mint twice now and both times have been terrible.

The decor is nice and the bouncer out the front is super friendly but these are probably the only two things this place has going for it.

Firstly, the drinks are extremely over-priced. A bottle of Stella will cost you $10, but that's if you're lucky enough to get some bar service. There is no beer on tap so a nice pint is not even an option.

I waited roughly 20 minutes for the bar staff to acknowledge me at the bar before giving up and returning to the overcrowded dance floor. During my wait a fellow patron complained to a staff member that she and I had been waiting an unreasonable length of time for some service. However, this only seemed to perpetuate their ignorance of her and I. In fact, people who had only just arrived at the bar then seemed to receive almost immediate service.

The state of the female toilets was horrendous. There was a very long wait to use the toilets, with only two cubicles available and there was broken glass everywhere.

On the bright side the music wasn't too bad. Top 40 r'n'b was played which seems to suit everyone's taste when going out for a dance. Sadly, this isn't enough to pull Mint Bar over the line.

There are hundreds of places I would choose to go to over Mint. The dentist is one of these places. It would be cheaper and less painful. I definitely won't be returning to Mint.
