Lit by red lights and the sparkle off the bling, this R&B-dedicated lounge brings out Perth's divas and their heavily accessorised male companions.
Base Lounge is an R&B haven in Perth, where girls can channel a little Beyonce, draping themselves diva-fashion across the basement space, while guys swagger confidently, flashing their man jewellery with pride.
The space is a playground for adults, incorporating Lego-like square furniture and stencil-effect walls, while disco balls and bulbous lights drip like misshapen stalactites from the ceiling - the whole lot bathed in a red glow. Clustered booths provide semi-private party spots, where people can flirt and mingle (and stiletto-bitten feet can be surreptitiously rested).
Every night, from Wednesday to Saturday, offers a variation on the R&B theme, with regular and guest DJs also spinning hip-hop and dancehall tunes. Saturday nights are dedicated to the girls, with big R&B anthems playing all night. On long weekends, Base opens on Sunday nights for Love '80s - a celebration of all the daggy, fabulous and, above all, danceable hits of that unforgettable decade.
This generous-hearted club thumbs its nose at its pocket-emptying contemporaries, adopting a policy of free entry for all events. After sashaying through the door with wallet intact, there's more money to spend on Base's luscious cocktails. Try the Propaganda (a palate-friendly mix of vodka, Chambord and strawberries) or investigate their list of more than 20 boozy mixes.
