A veritable oasis for parched pub patrons, this watering hole has been wetting local whistles for a century. Plentiful pub food ensures that tummies are filled with more than bubbles.
For a paltry thirst, or enough to drown an Arab's steed, this vintage boozer is an ideal pit stop. Cold beers and big meals are served in a cosy traditional pub space - decorated with just enough colour to keep the pokie regulars interested and the visitors amused.
The Arab Steed opened in 1901, providing a comfy space for the local labourers to quench their thirst. Its reputation as a well-stocked watering hole continues unblemished more than a century later - the Arab keeps a range of Coopers' and other local brews on tap and more than 20 additional bottled beers in old-style wooden chiller cabinets. Reluctant ale drinkers are also well served with a list of more than 30 wines by the glass.
This is a popular retreat for the city dweller in dire need of comfort food as well as comfort booze. The menu has generous, lip-smacking versions of all the classics, from fish and chips, parmigiana, and bangers and mash to pasta of the day.
Order drinks and meals at the bar and rejoice in the extra change in your pocket. However, if the Arab's lean prices still strain your wallet, come in on Wednesdays for happy hour.
