Formerly an old picture palace, this is one of Canberra's top nightspots. It holds onto its cinematic history, with a huge movie screen projecting visuals.
In a past life, Academy Club was a movie cinema, but its modern reincarnation has seen it emerge into the clubbing scene.
Revamped by architects and designers, this chic spot offers after-hours entertainment unlike Canberra has ever seen before. Yet despite the makeover and its transition from picture palace to club, this spot has still managed to retain some of its original building features, including a massive cinema screen, which projects visuals to the crowds.
If you want to escape the thumping beats of the dance floor, venture into the Candy Bar section, where DJs spin smoother tunes. The cocktail list here is extensive, and centres around a range of specialised vodka infusions. Happy hour at the Candy Bar is held every Thursday and Friday night from 5pm until 7pm, and it features $5 cocktails and half price wine and Champagne.
The more adventurous and sophisticated visitors should also explore the unique Pod section. This was once Canberra's most exclusive VIP room, but it is now open to the public, and features a stunning new bar.
Academy Club's largest nights are Love Saturdays with two for one cocktails, and Trash Thursdays with $2 drinks until 2am.
